GRACIE TROTTER NOTCHES ANOTHER TOP-TEN FINISH
TROTTER MAINTAINS 6TH PLACE IN POINTS STANDINGS WITH CONSISTENT SHOWING
(Denver, NC) September 20, 2018 (for immediate release):
Rookie Super Late Model driver Gracie Trotter picked up another strong Super Late Model finish in her return to Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, NC. Gracie strapped in to her TRD/Calico Coatings #2 Camry for the CARS Response Energy Tour’s Thrifty Tire-Puryear Tank Lines 300 on September 8. The high school junior scored another strong run, ending the night with a top-ten finish.
Weather was the early story. Mother Nature was not cooperating at first, with showers ultimately canceling qualifying, but the skies cleared in time for the scheduled start.
“We knew the rain was coming. We knew that qualifying could get rained out, so we did a few mock qualifying runs in practice that morning. It ended up working out for us because we ended up having the 4th fastest time that morning,” Gracie recalled. By rule, the field was set by combined practice speeds from earlier in the afternoon, and Gracie then made her second- highest SLM career start, having started 3rd at Caraway Speedway earlier this year.
Unfortunately, that would stay her highest position on the night. “Not much went right for us in the beginning of the race,” Gracie commented. “I really got pushed around a lot and actually got shoved up the track on the third lap, causing me to lose a lot of positions. So looking on to my next race I need to focus on being more aggressive.” Still, gaining another top 10 finish on the night added to Gracie’s impressive rookie Super Late Model season.
She continued her outstanding record of finishing on the lead lap, bringing her Camry home in one piece by avoiding getting caught up in others’ mishaps. “I’m still learning a ton and getting better at racing these Super Late Models. It’s a difficult thing to do but I raced hard and didn’t give up.”
Currently sitting 6th in the PASS South Tour points standings, Gracie’s next turn in the #2 Super Late Model Camry will come on November 3 at South Boston Speedway. With two more starts to go in her rookie season, Gracie is focusing on what looks to be a promising future. “I feel like I’ve really learned a lot this year, and I’ll take that into next year and be even better. I have a lot of confidence in that.”
